Photo of the Day: Shea Stadium, with an Old Time Feel

Per the recommendation of my friend, Matt Cerrone, I downloaded an application for my iPhone called Camera Bag, which allows the user to quickly apply effects to pictures.

I took this picture of Shea Stadium back in 2004, but I applied a “1974″ effect to it. It dulled out the colors, gave it some grain, and added a white border, and it reminded me of the pictures in the 1969 Mets yearbook.

The original, which can be found here, is one of my favorite shots of Shea I have in my collection. I think it presents the old ballpark in such a grand fashion, and really shows how big and wide open it was.

Everybody’s gotta go at some point, right?

At Spring Training, the players are on the field from about 8:30 am through about 12:00 or 12:30 pm, and they drink a lot of water and Gatorade, so at some point the players can’t hold it in any longer.

That’s where P.L.O.P-JON saves the day.

On the back field complex, you will find several portable restrooms as well as one other restroom adjacent to Omar Minaya’s watchtower. At various points over the morning, you may find a player using one of them, and sometimes longer than expected.

This candid moment for Moises Alou was taken in February, 2007. You would think he would have buttoned up inside the restroom but it probably got a little stuffy in there, based on how long this trip took him.
